“Listen, are you breathing just a little and calling it a life?”
                                                                                                    –Mary Oliver

Everything starts with the breath.

The breath is our Life Force.

Breathing is the first thing we do.

Breathing is the last thing we do.

It’s inhalation. Then exhalation.

First, in. Then, out.

Back and Forth.

Yin and Yang.

In through the nose, out through the mouth.

Lungs full. Lungs empty.

Life in. Life out.

The breath never leaves. Until it leaves.

The breath gives us voice.

The breath gives us laughter.

The breath gives us song.

The breath decides how we move.

The breath gave Ginsberg his Howl, Janis her growl, and James Brown his prowl.

The breath inhales spirit.

The breath exhales spirit.

The breath flows when we’re centered.

The breath stops when we’re stressed.

The breath connects us both to the life outside and the soul inside.

So whenever you’re in doubt, start here:

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Repeat as necessary.

Because everything starts with the breath.  TZT
