In an effort to provide you with even more valuable content, I am introducing a new feature called 2 Minute Zen.   In much shorter bursts than the regular blog posts, I will be offering brief thoughts, reflections, and exercises on approaching your classroom (and your life) with a more serene, peaceful, focused, zen-inspired mindset.  Enjoy.

Stressed out? Try this mini-meditation.

I have faith that you can do it because you only have to breathe three times, and you’re going to do that anyway.  Might as well get something out of it. 🙂

Directions: Take three deep breaths.  Inhale on one of the following concepts and exhale on another. In that moment between inhalation and exhalation – you know, that space that contains the entire Universe – visualize these ideas becoming a part of your daily experience:

It can be a word:

Peace
Lovingkindness
Tranquility
Focus
Love
Happiness
Relaxation

Or a sentence (Dare I say “Mantra?”):

I am peaceful.
I am happy.
I am relaxed.
I am tranquil.
I am focused.

Feeling feisty and radical? Try one of these:

I am okay as I am.
I am worthy.
I am confident.
I’ll get through this.

In a particularly edgy mood?

Try this one. . .

I Double Dog Dare you:

I love myself.  TZT
