ost “Slow down
you move too fast;
you’ve got to make the mornin’ last
just kickin’ down the cobblestones
looking for fun and feelin’ groovy.
                             –The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feeling Groovy)

“The  59th Street Bridge Song (Feeling Groovy) is quite possibly one of the most Mindfully-based classic rock songs ever.  I was thinking of this song yesterday and thought I’d share this video* with you.

Here are some of its key themes and ideas:

* Slowing down is a sign of wisdom. (“Slow down, you move too fast.”)
* Savor the moments you are given. (“You’ve got to make the mornin’ last.”)
* Find the place where you feel a sense of contentment (In the case, the 59th Street Bridge)
* Slowing down will give you a sense of peace. (“lookin for fun and feeling Groovy.”).
* It’s important to stop, slow down, and pay attention to the details around us (“Hello lamppost, whatcha
   knowin? I’ve come to watch your flowers growin'”).
* Singing is one road to contentment (“Ain’t you got no rhymes for me?”).
* Just say no! Reduce! Subtract! Create space! (“Got no deeds to do, no promises to keep.”).
* Be present in the Moment and pay attention to details. (“Let the morning time drop all its petals on me.”).

What we can learn from these two troubadours may help us learn to find a greater sense of peace.

And if we’re lucky and we practice, we just might end up feelin’ groovy. TZT

*Can anyone tell me what in the Sam Hill kind of instruments are those two dudes blowing on in the back of this video?
